The difference between lakes

At the heart of the state, southwest of Syracuse on the far side of the Catskills from New York City are the eleven finger lake.  Narrow channels gouged out by glaciers that have left tell-tale signs in the form of drumlins, steeps gorges, and a number of waterfalls.  With the exception of progressive, well-to-do Ithaca and tiny Skaneateles, few towns complete with the lakeshore scenery. That said, the area as whole is a relaxing place to spend some time, particularly if you enjoy sampling wine. The finger lakes region and much of upstate New York produces a number of good vintage.the finger lakes region encompasses six major lakes: Skaneateles, Owasco, Cayuga,  Seneca, Keuka, and  Canandaigua, as well as a handful of  smaller ones

Skaneateles the highest and arguably the most beautiful of the six major lakes, and it very well known by it is spring fed, crystal clear, and surrounded by woods, and it only town on the lake located at the waters northern edge.  To the west of Skaneateles lake is  Owasco lake 15 km long and is the smallest of the finger lakes, it’ s an industry city dotted with many handsome 19th century building.  After Owasco lake comes Cayuga which is the longest (38.1 miles, 61 km)  is known for its good fishing  carp and large mouth bass swim in its shallow waters, and in its deeper ones, northern pike and lake trout.

Seneca at the northwestern end of Cayuga lake it is the largest in total area, and  is the deepest (618 feet, 188 m), and it is blend of old mills and homes of various architectural styles, tucked away among the mature trees. These largest lakes resemble the others in shape, which collectively reminded early map-makers of the fingers of a hand. Oneida lake  is generally not considered one of the Finger Lakes, but it is sometimes called the Thumb.

Keuka is the only one of the finger lakes with an irregular outline, its name means “canoe landing” contains about a dozen antique airplanes, along with bicycles, motorcycles ect.The farthest west of the six major finger lakes is Canandaigua lake. It ‘s a popular weekend retreat and it is considerably more commercialized than the other lakes.
